Herring makes switch

Belleville (Ill.) Belleville East three-star defensive end Warren Herring said just a few weeks ago he was solid on his commitment to Kansas State.
But something deep down inside told him, he needed to keep looking at other schools. So the 6-foot-3 ½, 248-pounder kept visiting other schools.

And it was on a visit to Wisconsin earlier this week that he found his new – and final – home to attend college.
"I have switched my commitment to Wisconsin," Herring, who was named as an all-conference and all-area selection in 2008, said. "Wisconsin is just a better school academically, athletically and socially."
Herring went on to say he still has a good bond with the Kansas State coaches, especially Mo Latimore and Joe Bob Clements, but the bond built with Badger assistant Dave Doeren helped seal the deal for UW.
"He's a really cool guy," Herring said. "He told me with some work I could do some good things. I plan on working hard and making an impact up there. I'm now done with the process. I'm sold to Wisconsin.
"It was just like you have that feeling when you're up there, and you know it's the right place. How they presented themselves. How they showed us around, everything is amazing. It's the right place for me, and I knew it walking around the campus."
With recruiting officially behind him, Herring has shifted into focusing on his senior season.
"I'm now about 6-3 ½ and 248 pounds," he said.
"My foot speed has gotten so much better, and all of my maxes have improved at least 10 pounds. I'm now benching 315 pounds. I'm excited about my senior season. We have big goals, and I want to accomplish a lot."
