Herring focused off field

Batesville (Miss.) South Panola linebacker Chris Herring was set to make an unofficial visit to LSU this weekend. So did he make it?
"Nope, I couldn't make it," Herring said. "I've decided that I need to focus more on my ACT on the weekends at this point until the test on Oct. 27."

Herring, who said he expects to fully qualify, said the test on the 27th would be the first time he takes the ACT.
"Once I get that out of the way then I can start to think more and more about recruiting," he said.
In the mean time, he'll begin to line up official visits - including two trips that he's already set up.
"I'm going to Auburn on Nov. 16 and then to UGA on Dec. 7," Herring said.
Herring said other than UGA and Auburn, he'll also think long and hard about Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
"I probably won't visit the two in-state schools officially," he said. "I've seen what they are like."
Herring has 60 tackles in the season.
