Herndon ready to take the field

Dallas (Texas) Lincoln safety Courtney Herndon made his verbal commitment during the summer to Kansas State. Are other schools still trying to recruit him?
“I am still solidly committed to Kansas State,” the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Herndon said. “I’ve had a few schools call me, but I’ve missed most of them. I did talk to Kansas the other day. I’m not interested in them, or anyone. I really don’t care if I miss their calls or not. I’m not returning them.”

Herndon’s season got off to a slow start for him.
“It’s been a rocky season so far for me,” the three-star rated Herndon said. “A couple days before our first game, I rolled my ankle a little bit. They held me out just to be safe. We’ve got the No. 14 team in the nation, Denton Ryan coming on Friday. I wanted to be ready and the coaches wanted me to be ready. They won the game last week without me. The game on Friday is at our house. We’re ready for it, too.”
Herndon is ready for his turn on the field.
“I want to get out there and play. I’m tired of hitting my teammates. It will be nice to see another team out there, even though my team played last week. This is my first chance to hit someone.”
Herndon hopes to top last year’s stats of 87 tackles eight interceptions and nine pass break-ups.
“I was pleased with my year last season,” he said. “I really feel I can do better, though.”
