Hendrix makes side trip to USC

Visiting USC would seem to require extensive planning for O'Fallon, Ill., native Dewayne Hendrix, but the four-star defensive end checked out the Los Angeles-area school on Tuesday on a last-minute whim.

"It just popped up," Hendrix said. "We were on vacation and I decided since they offered me I would make a visit. Basically my whole family came."
Hendrix was out West visiting extended family earlier this week when he stopped by USC and saw the Trojan's practice.
"I saw mostly everything, and I got to see them practice and how the whole set-up was," Hendrix said. "It was really more than I expecting and turned out to be nice. I really liked everything about it."
The stop over at USC also gave Hendrix a chance to reconnect with a fellow Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by Under Armour alum, who also has ties to Hendrix's home in the eastern St. Louis suburbs.
"Me and Adoree' Jackson were talking, because he is always up there," Hendrix said. "He's doing real good. He told me he liked it a lot, and they were going to be in his [top] interest."
Before Tuesday's visit, Hendrix was listing Tennessee and Florida atop his list with USC in the next tier. Getting a chance to see the school live for the first time, though, has the Trojans moving up.
"They are really right up there," Hendrix said. "It is going to be a close one."
Hendrix said he spent the most time with defensive coordinator Ed Orgeron, and felt a lot of love from the coaching staff. USC sees Hendrix fitting in as more of a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker on their squad.
USC was the only school Hendrix visited when he was out West. With his own season starting soon, his next trips will be in the fall for games. An official visit with Florida has already been scheduled for the Oct. 5 weekend.
