Heisman watch: Recalling recruiting twists

Last week: Watson completed 34 of 47 passes for 360 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, and he also rushed for 101 yards and one score on 14 carries in Clemson's 37-27 win at Syracuse.
Recruiting twists: Watson committed on Feb. 1, 2012, and stuck with his Clemson commitment, although Ohio State, Georgia and others did not back off recruiting him. The former five-star pledged to Clemson coach Dabo Swinney moments after his National Signing Day press conference that year -- and it was a big moment for the Tigers even though Watson wouldn't be coming to town for years.

RB
Leonard Fournette
LSU
Last week: Fournette carried the ball 19 times for 91 yards and a touchdown in LSU's 31-14 loss to Arkansas.
Recruiting twists: Fournette's was a four-year journey to LSU although there were some detours in the closing moments, which made for some intrigue. The former five-star visited Alabama and some thought he could follow Louisiana native Cameron Robinson to the Crimson Tide. Texas also received a late visit, which made things interesting. In the end, though, LSU won out.

RB
Ezekiel Elliott
Ohio State
Last week: In a 28-3 win at Illinois, Elliott finished with 181 yards and two touchdowns on 27 rushes.
Recruiting twists: Elliott committed to Ohio State in April but things got super interesting about a week before Signing Day when he took an official visit to Missouri and then went silent leading up to his final decision. Elliott's father played football and his mother ran track for the Tigers, but the four-star RB stuck with the Buckeyes.

QB
Baker Mayfield
Oklahoma
Last week: Mayfield completed 24 of 34 passes for 270 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown in Oklahoma's 44-34 win over Baylor.
Recruiting twists: Florida Atlantic, Rice and Washington State had offered Mayfield out of Austin (Texas) Lake Travis, but then he decided to be a preferred walk-on at Texas Tech. The former three-star transferred to Oklahoma after what was described as a "miscommunication" with the Texas Tech coaching staff.

RB
Dalvin Cook
Florida State
Last week: Cook rushed 22 times for 138 yards and two touchdowns in Florida State's 34-17 victory over NC State.
Recruiting twists: Cook originally committed to Clemson, especially because he loved how the Tigers utilized C.J. Spiller. But after attending Florida's spring game, the Miami (Fla.) Central star said he was a Gator. At the Under Armour All-American game, Cook made his final decision and picked Florida State.
