It's a deep year for lineman in Utah in the 2009 class on both sides of the ball. One of the region's top defensive tackle prospects is Salt Lake City (Utah) Highland's Latu Heimuli.
Heimuli, 6-4, 300 pounds is another in a group of talented line prospects from Utah. The big man played on both sides of the ball last season earning 1st team all-state honors on the defensive side of the ball.
Heimuli racked up 52 tackles, 15 for loss and five sacks and has the potential to be an impact tackle at the next level. He hails from the school that produced former Oregon Duck standout Haloti Ngata and although we don't feel he has the same kind of upside, Heimuli is definitely a player who projects at the high Div I level.
On the recruiting front, Heimuli has three offers on the table and is hearing from a few other national programs as well.
"BYU, Utah and Arizona have all offered," Heimuli said. "I've also heard from Colorado, Nebraska, Georgia and Oregon State.
"I don't have a leader right now but my top five are BYU, Utah, Georgia, USC and UCLA and again, that's in no order. I'm open to everyone and never had a favorite school growing up or anything.
"I'm looking for the school with a good tradition and the best combination of athletics and academics. I'm sure I'll do some camps over the summer but I'm not sure which ones right now. I know I'm going to the NIKE Camp at BYU but that's all I know for sure right now."
