Heels lead for Florida athlete

Running back / cornerback Daniel Phelps has been somewhat of an unknown for most of the recruiting process. But offers are beginning to pile up, and people are beginning to take notice of his athleticism and potential.
Phelps, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound running back / cornerback from Sarasota (Fl.) Booker runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. He now has offers from Tennessee, North Carolina, Louisville, Iowa State, Indiana, Central Florida, Southern Miss and others. One school stands out as his leader.

"My favorite school is North Carolina," he said. "They're ahead of the others by a lot. The other schools are good and all, but when it comes to education and athletics, it doesn't get much better than UNC. I know they're rebuilding in football, but when you have the chance to go to a place like that and compete for a lot of playing time early on, you want to do it. Their defense needs some guys that can come in, especially at defensive back, and contribute right away."
Louisville, Tennessee, Iowa and Iowa State are also recruiting Phelps, and he's interested in each of those schools. When will he make a decision?
"I'm not sure when I'll decide," he said. "I don't want to go back on anything I say, so I'll wait and see what happens. But right now it looks like UNC is definitely the school to beat. I'm most interested in them."
