Heck recaps UNC, UVA visits

Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles offensive tackle Jon Heck hit the road this past weekend traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C. and Charlottesville, Va. to check out a pair of ACC programs. The 6-foot-7, 275-pound lineman talked about what he saw at the University of North Carolina and University of Virginia.
"I had never been there before," Heck said of North Carolina. "The campus is beautiful and I absolutely loved the offensive line coach, Coach (Sam) Pittman, he was great. He showed me around campus which blew me away. We then made our way out to practice. The team looked good, especially on defense. I got to hang out with a few of the linemen afterwards. I liked the guys, there seemed to be a lot of chemistry amongst the group. Overall I really enjoyed my trip there."

As for Virginia, that is a much more familiar school to the Sunshine State product. He has built a very good relationship with Mike London and his staff.
"I absolutely love Coach (Mike) London, he is one of the best coaches I have been around because he is a great speaker and a great leader. Everybody on the team speaks highly of him," Heck said. "I used to live in Charlottesville so I am very familiar with that area and the school. I have now visited UVA several times, I think that was my fourth time this year. I have an offer from there and it is definitely one of my top schools."
At this point, Virginia is Heck's only offer. The explanation for the lack of offers is due to his junior year being stolen from him by an injury.
"I am coming off an injury," Heck said. "I had a fracture in my foot and had to have surgery on it. I have been cleared for a long time now, so I am 100% and ready to go for the spring."
Numerous schools have made mention of plans to visit and evaluate Heck during the spring season.
"North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Florida," Heck said. "We will see how that goes."
This coming weekend, Heck will visit Northwestern and Notre Dame, his father's alma mater. The Irish are amongst his top schools at this point.
"I think I am going to take a few more visits before I think about committing," Heck said. "But UVA and UNC are two schools that are very high on my list. Obviously having lived in Charlottesville for a few years, I have always kind of wanted to go there. Of course Notre Dame is in the picture as well because of family, they have always been a top school of mine. After seeing UNC, they are definitely one of my top schools as well."
