On Friday, Rivals released their updated state rankings among the 2023 class which resulted in plenty of headlines among the talent within the Volunteer State. We take a look at each one below.

Rivals250 linebacker Caleb Herring is your new No. 1 prospect in the state of Tennessee, leapfrogging Alabama tight end pledge Ty Lockwood, who held onto the top spot for quite a while. At 6-foot-5, 210-pounds, Herring has been impressive in coverage throughout the spring and summer during 7-on-7 action and has the frame to add good weight once he gets to Knoxville and be a force at outside linebacker.

Minchey moving up:

Quite frankly, Minchey isn't talked about enough as being one of the best quarterbacks in the Volunteer State. The Pitt commit earned an invite to the Elite 11 Finals in California and put in an impressive performance during his time on the West Coast. Analysts and other programs are now taking notice, as Notre Dame recently offered the three-star prospect as well. Minchey jumped an impressive 20 spots in the latest state rankings, checking in at No. 9.

QB talent is stacked:

Staying with the quarterback theme, the crop of 2023 signal-callers within Tennessee is impressive when you break it down. Brock Glenn (Ohio State, No. 3), Kenny Minchey (Pitt, No. 9), Chris Parson (Mississippi State, No. 16), and Marcel Reed (Ole Miss, No. 18) puts the state with four quarterbacks committed to power five programs. Also included among the Top 45 prospects is Liberty commit Hank Brown (No. 31) and Georgia State pledge Braylan Ragland (No. 32) giving the state of Tennessee and overall impressive group of quarterbacks to watch this upcoming season.

Top prospect list expansion:

The previous top prospect list in the state of Tennessee consisted of 35 prospects, however, the updated list now includes 45 and deservedly so considering the depth of talent within the state borders. Among the notables making their debuts include London Humphreys (Vanderbilt, No. 28), Noah Vaughn (Virginia, No. 29), Maureice Sherrill (Vanderbilt, No. 30), George Steih (Wake Forest, No. 36), Caleb Dorris (Duke, No. 37), and Anthony Boggs (Duke, No. 40).
