Haynes heads South

Linebacker Lekenwic Haynes is heading to the Deep South this weekend for his final visit of the recruiting process.
The 6-foot-4 Terry (Texas) High School product has been lured by the southern charm of Ole Miss recruiting coordinator Chris Vaughn and new coach Houston Nutt.

"They were recruiting me at Arkansas," he said. "I really like those guys and feel very comfortable with them. They seem like they promote a family atmosphere in their program. They have put a bunch of defensive backs into the league and that is impressive. It's also the SEC, where I'd be playing against the best. The fans are crazy there also."
Haynes, who visited Purdue University during the fall, is down to the Boilermakers and the Rebels.
"I'll have a decision after this weekend," he said. "Both have pros and cons."
Haynes has been starting since his sophomore season and combines Division I size and speed. His athletic ability would allow him to play safety or outside linebacker if he were to put on some weight. He was a first-team, all-district selection as a junior and senior.
