Haynes, Atkins getting looks at Norcom

Portsmouth (Va.) I.C. Norcom has a handful of prospects to watch for the 2012 recruiting class. The biggest of the group is 6-foot-3, 310-pound offensive lineman Marcus Haynes along with tailback Chavelle Atkins.
"Marcus was all-district as a guard this year," Norcom head coach Larry Archie said. "He's going to be a monster. He's a real physical kid that runs well and pulls well. He was crushing people. He's real impressive. He knocks people down.

"He's a humble kid that just starting playing this year. It was his first year on varsity; he was on JV last year. His mother didn't care for football too much, but he's a coach's dream. He picks up things well and gets downfield well. He can get to the second level and his pass protection is good."
Plenty of schools have been impressed with Haynes.
"All the guys that have come in are impressed, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Temple and Old Dominion."
Joining Haynes is 6-foot-0, 200-pound running back Chavelle Atkins who earned offensive player of the year in the district after rushing for 1,100-yards and eight touchdowns. He added second team all-district defensive honors.
"He's a workhorse," he said. "He's got great speed, is a big kid that can run between the tackles and outside. He can make you miss with a move or run through you. He's a real good blocker.
"On defense, he comes hard off the edge. A lot of people don't realize how big he is, but he's a big kid that had 12.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He can rip the ball out of your hands."
