Hawks dont take long to replace CB

Word trickled out of Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend that Kansas had lost a commitment from cornerback Brandon Johnson. It didn’t take the Jayhawks long to replace him with another solid junior college cornerback.
“I committed to Kansas today,” said Milledgeville (Ga.) Georgia Military cornerback Shelton Simmons.

“It was down to Kansas and East Carolina, and I just liked the fact that I could come in play right away at Kansas and the campus was nice.”
Simmons, who is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound three-star cornerback, visited Kansas back on November 22 and also visited UAB and Kentucky. Simmons said he was going to also visit East Carolina but things never worked out with them.
“It made my decision easier,” he said.
“I would have liked to go see what East Carolina’s about, but the visit didn’t happen. So, I’m going to go ahead and go to Kansas. I’m happy with my decision.”
The pledge from Simmons to Kansas more than makes up for Johnson’s loss, since both are ranked three-star prospects.
Another plus about Simmons is that will be able to play spring football at KU since Georgia Military is on a quarter system and he’ll graduate in March.
