Hawkeyes land Detroit duo

Detroit (Mich.) East English Village defensive ends Cedrick Lattimore and Chauncey Golston made their second recruiting visits to Iowa City on Monday, and left committed to the Hawkeyes.
Lattimore and Golston made the trip together with their parents and broke the news to Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker before leaving campus.

"Towards the middle of my visit I knew this was the school for me. They had my best interests at heart," Lattimore said. "While we were on the visit I told my mom and Chauncey told his mom. We were just like, 'look, this is the school for us.'
"Toward the end we were sitting in the office and my mom said, 'Cedrick has something to tell you guys.' We told them we would like to commit to the University of Iowa. (Parker) picked me up off my feet, so it was exciting."
"I had the vibe the first time I came on the first visit," Golston added. "On this visit we really talked to each other about it. It's the city, the coaches and I can just see myself here."
One of the biggest influences in the decision for both prospects was the success former East English Village cornerback Desmond "Buddha" King has had with the Hawkeyes.
"That was a big thing because if he can get used to it and thrive here, then I'm feeling that I can too," Golston said.
"It goes back to Buddha," Lattimore agreed. "He was there today and I was talking to him. I told him, 'I'm going to pop the question today.' Then, it just took over with them recruiting me, coming up to the school, showing me love and making me feel comfortable. When I went on my first visit I was feeling comfortable around the players."
Lattimore measured in at 6-foot-4 and 251 pounds at the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour in Cleveland last month. Golston was 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds at the same event and both are expected to play defensive end for the Hawkeyes.
"With my frame, they are going to put weight on me," Golston said. "He didn't say much about what they will do with me right now, but I'm sure we'll talk more about it later."
With their commitments out of the way, the focus for both players returns to their most immediate mission.
"I'm not rushing to get to college now," Golston remarked. "I still have to bring my high school a ring."
