Hawkeyes add first major pledge of the day

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Iowa Hawkeyes are even closer toward taking over the No. 1 spot in the Big 10 recruiting rankings. That's the story after the Hawkeyes picked up a commitment from a five-star player moments ago at the U.S. Army All-America Bowl.
Barrington, Ill., offensive tackle Dan Doering announced that he's heading to Iowa, the school that most have assumed he was heading to all the way back after his official visit to Iowa on December 10.

"Everyone around the Iowa program is really friendly, and the players are also just a great bunch of guys," Doering said. "The players are really straight forward and good people overall.
"It's great to be a Hawkeye."
