Hattis settles on Stanford

Henry Hattis didn't want to drag out the recruiting process so last week he reached for his phone and began informing college coaches where he was leaning.

Then on Sunday night, the top-rated prospect in New Mexico wrapped up his decision and committed to Stanford, giving the Cardinal yet another solid piece in the 2016 class. The 6-foot-7, 265-pound offensive tackle from Rio Rancho (N.M.) Cleveland also had Arizona, UCLA and Vanderbilt high on his list before settling on Stanford, where he camped this summer.

WHAT'S NEXT?: Hattis, a three-star prospect that earned an offer from the Cardinal after camping in Palo Alto earlier this summer, said he only intends to visit Stanford. Cleveland kicks off the season Aug. 28.
IN HIS WORDS: "I did a lot of thinking and talking with my parents, and what it came down to was that I realized I didn't need to take the time to go out and visit other schools," Hattis told Rivals.com. "I knew Stanford was the place I wanted to go to originally and I after going through camp with my team I knew how much potential we have, so I wanted to get this decision out of the way.
"I talked to a couple coaches already to tell them the news, and they've told me they still plan to recruit me, but I'm not planning on taking any other official visits. That's what I'm set on right now. Another big part of why I decided to commit was that I saw all the talent they're bringing in and I want to be a part of that."
RIVALS' REACTION: Earlier this year Hattis was at the Rivals Camp Series stop in Los Angeles, where he competed alongside fellow Cardinal pledge Nate Herbig. The two would appear to complement each other well, specifically with Hattis being an athletic prospect that can seal the edge. Beating Arizona and UCLA was big for assistant coach Mike Bloomgren, too, particularly after adding a handful of three-star offensive line prospects in the previous class.
