Haskins hoping to schedule visits

Last season, Baton Rouge (La.) Desire Street Academy was one of the feel good stories of the Louisiana State Playoffs. The small program, with limited resources and numerous Hurricane Katrina transplants made a deep playoff run in the 1A classification. This year, success has come less easily and a deep playoff run will not take place, but there is still talent in the system, namely Brandon Haskins.

Haskins, a 6-foot-4, 281 pound offensive tackle has the ability to play on the next level. With his season now complete, the next level will become his focus.

"We lost in the first round of the playoffs last Friday," Haskins said. "It was good. I had a good season. I think I improved from last year. I was bigger and stronger and I was better."

Though Haskins doesn't know of any official offers yet, he has been in contact with some coaches from several programs including the in-state Tigers.

"The coach from LSU, I talked to him," he said. "Southeastern called. Auburn calls. They keep in touch and so does Central Florida."

The three-star prospect hasn't taken any official or unofficial visits to date but he is hopeful that he can get on campus at LSU in the near future.

"We're trying to set it up right now, a visit to LSU," he said. "I'm also trying to set one up with Auburn. I'm trying to set up official visits."

On the field, Haskins has shown his versatility in his ability to play on both sides of the ball. With his season over, he continues to display his athleticism on the basketball court.

"I'm playing basketball right now," he said. "I try to keep myself in shape. I play center. I was doing it just to stay in shape but I like basketball. I take it seriously."
