Has Mattes Committed To Notre Dame
"He is making a formal announcement tonight at 5:00," Plymouth (Pa.) Wyoming Valley West head coach Ed Michaels said moments ago when asked if star tight end Brian Mattes had committed to Notre Dame.
"I can tell you it's between Notre Dame and Virginia Tech."

"Coach Willingham was here and the newspapers caught wind of it and people think he committed to Notre Dame."
"But coach Beamer was here too."
"He'll announce tonight."
Mattes, 6-foot-6 and 245 pounds, made official visits to both schools as well as Penn State and Virginia.
Mattes, who has easily qualified academically, caught 34 passes this season.
