Harris prepared for opportunities

Aledo (Texas) 2017 four-star offensive guard Wes Harris has been a mainstay along the offensive line for the State Champion Bearcats since his freshman year, and the 6-foot-3, 285-pound has shown he more is more than capable of handling his business.
On Sunday at the Dallas RCS, he also showed he was someone to be dealt with, and when it was his time he did as he earned a spot on the offensive top performers list.

The recruiting process has not come so quickly for Harris. Interest arrived last spring from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, and he only took one unofficial visit in the fall.
"The only thing is my brother and I (Hunter Harris) both went on an unofficial visit to TCU during the football season whenever they played Oklahoma," Harris said. "The atmosphere and the fans, it was amazing out there. I loved the way they played ball. It reminds me a whole lot of how we play ball up here at the high school. It was really fun to get down on the field and see all the players. They all seemed like good guys and had really good attitudes. It was a really cool experience."
He has not taken any visits in 2015, and Harris is taking in the interest he has received.
"Mainly right now I'm just getting small letters," Harris said. "Lately I've been getting them mainly from Oklahoma and Oregon, but to be honest with you recruiting has been slow. My last letter was probably three weeks ago."
Harris hopes to attend several camps this summer, but right now there is only one he knows is in the plans.
"I believe my brother and I both are going to a camp at Miami," Harris said. "They wanted us to go down there and go to a camp, but that's the only one we've been invited to so far. I'm definitely looking forward to go to a lot this summer."
He does not claim any leaders right now, and he did not grow up a fan of any particular school. However, he does have ties to Texas A&M since his mother played softball in College Station.
Right now, Harris is just working hard so he is ready to show exactly what he brings to the table when his opportunity comes.
"I've been blessed to be able to play on a good football team like Aledo, and I've been blessed to be able to play for a couple of State Championships and win them," Harris said. "And I've been blessed to have good coaches teach me.
"I think it's awesome having my good offensive line coaches, coach Bishop and coach Wheeler, with just the technique they teach us. I think that's a big thing for me. I had very good technique at the camp, and I think that had a big deal to do with one-on-ones. Also I think it's all mental. I think that's the main thing. I have a real good mental focus and I always believe in myself."
