Harris decides to head West

Greensboro (N.C.) Northern Guilford wide receiver Maurice Harris made his selection yesterday. The 6-foot-2, 194-pounder decided to head West to join his family.
"I committed to California and Coach Genyk," he said. "He was surprised and excited. He congratulated me."

Harris is joining two of his family members at California in Zach Maynard and Keenan Allen.
"That's good because I get to play with my family, it's a one time thing and I'm excited to play with them."
Harris made the decision while visiting the campus.
"I wanted to wait and was thinking about it, but then I really wanted to go here and committed instead," he said. "I liked everything about California. I came here last year and I want to play here.
"I love the coaches and people. The coaches are just down-to-earth. They taught me a lot at camp and we have a good connection. I especially like Coach Genyk and Coach Daft. I can relate to them."
Academics were also a key ingredient in his selection.
"I like the academics," he said. "It's a top school and I know I can do well there. I have no clue what I want to study, but academics are first."
In addition, the three-star wideout sees the opportunity to play early for the Golden Bears.
"I know they have a couple guys leaving next year, so the chance is there to play early and that's good."
