Hard-hitting safety makes decision

Going into the season one of the hardest hitting and best safety prospects in SoCal was Michael Samples (6-0, 182, 4.6) from Long Beach (Calif.) Cabrillo. Samples saw his season cut short with an injury causing him to miss most of his senior season.
Due to the fact that Samples missed most of the season, many of colleges that were recruiting him went away.

One school never wavered in their belief or their recruitment and Samples has rewarded their loyalty with a commitment.
"I committed to Nevada-Reno Wolf Pack," Samples said. "I love Coach (Marty) Long and Coach (Kim) McCloud."
"We just have that cool relationship that just really got me believing that even though I did finished my year they knew what type of player I am," Samples said. "Even though I only played three games I had 37 total tackles and three forced fumbles."
"I broke my jaw and they stood with me," Samples said. "I was supposed to take a trip Nevada this past weekend (Jan. 7th) but due to the weather I was unable to."
"They kept calling me saying that they wanted to wait until the trip to offer but told me that my scholarship was there," Samples said. "So I committed to the University of Nevada."
"I will be taking a trip this weekend to see everything."
