Three-star safety/wide receiver Lance Mitchell (6-2, 190, 4.6) from Pasadena (Calif.) Muir has four offers on the table and he's getting plenty of recruiting looks some of the west's best schools.
Mitchell has offers from Arizona, Oregon State, Utah and UNLV. He has been in contact with UCLA, USC, Cal and Washington among others.
Though Mitchell has been a standout on both sides of the ball he is getting most of his recruiting attention as a safety.
As a junior, Mitchell racked up 106 tackles, eight pass breakups, three fumble recoveries, two fumbles caused, two sacks and one interception. On offense, he caught 36 passes for 690 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Mitchell's junior season performance saw him earn his league's Defensive Player of the Year award and he also was an all-area selection.
Mitchell was just as dominating as a sophomore when he accounted for 87 tackles and five interceptions. On offense, he had 44 receptions for 788 yards and nine touchdowns.
Does Mitchell have a favorite list of schools?
"I like Arizona, Oregon State, Cal, USC, and UCLA," Mitchell said. "But in reality I'm pretty much open.
"I haven't decided on any visits yet. I will probably visit Arizona, Oregon State and Cal. Again I'm pretty open to other schools, too."
The scouting report on Mitchell is he's an excellent coverage guy. Many think that safeties with good coverage skills is an added bonus. He's also a good hitter and plays in the box quite a bit so tackling is a strong point.
Mitchell is very physical and aggressive, but plays within himself so rarely does he bite on the play action. He's smart and learns quickly.
Mitchell was a recent participant at the Beyond 2000 Elite Camp and camp facilitator Henry Bell had the following to say about Mitchell.
"Lance is big time," Bell said. "I think he's the best safety in California. He has all the tools."
