Handy would be handy to lucky team

Westfield offensive lineman Patrick Handy helped pave the way for Westfield's run at a state championship. Now, he's looking for a school to pave his way to college.
Handy (6-3, 290-pounds) has been offered by the University of Texas-El Paso, SMU and Texas State, but it's a Big 12 North school which tickles his fancy.

"I like Iowa State," he said. "There are a few guys from Westfield already up there and it would be like home. The coaches met with me this week and I think I'm going to take a visit up there. Playing in the Big 12 is a goal of mine."
Handy helped his teammates and coaches nearly reach their goal in 2004 -- a state championship.
"A lot of schools are talking with Patrick right now," Westfield Corby Meekins said. "Those schools need to come to the table with an offer instead of talk to get in on him."
Under Meekins, Handy became a better player, while Westfield's team unified.
"We really became more of a team and we weren't individual players," Handy said. "We had a coaching change and I think they put in more of an effort. They really cared about the little stuff and we were much more prepared."
