Hampton Roads WR sets summer plans

Chesapeake (Va.) Great Bridge wide receiver Carvin Powell has two offers from Army and East Carolina at this time. The 6-foot-2, 199-pounder is making plans for this summer. Where is he headed?
"On Saturday I'm going to Virginia Tech and then I'm going to camps at NC State and Penn State. A lot of the coaches have asked to see me run," he said. "Next week I'm headed to a passing league at ECU and the following week one to Virginia. At the end of the month I'm going to do a tournament at King's Fork."

Powell believes a number of schools are on the verge of offering.
"West Virginia said they want me to come up and run and then will offer me on the spot," he said. "NC State said go to their camp and then I could get an offer. Virginia said after their passing league and Virginia Tech told me they really like me. They are ready to see more of me at camp and we'll see what happens."
With a variety of schools interested and looking to offer, is Powell favoring anyone?
"I told the NC State coaches I'm very high on them. I like the way they do things," he said. "Logan Heastie has me looking at West Virginia and Virginia Tech and North Carolina are up there too.
"I have family in Carolina and the coaches have explained things really well at NC State."
The Hampton Roads prospect plans to make a decision before the summer is out.
"Most likely I will decide before the football season starts."
With that in mind, Powell is getting looks on offense and defense. He made a point about which position he prefers.
"A lot of teams are giving me a choice on what position I'd like to play," he said. "I tell them the first position I'd like to play is defense because I like to hit."
