Hamm is one big target

Size-wise, Red Oak, Texas offensive tackle Anthony Hamm is definitely going to be just fine to be looked at as a Division I prospect.
Listed by many as the one of the top juniors in Class 4A, the 6-foot-6, 354-pound prospect made his way to the Rivals.com Junior Day in Dallas this past weekend and impressed many just by walking up to say hello. The quiet young man is looking forward to the next step in his search for a college home.

"I've been getting a lot of letters from big colleges and really not from any small ones," Hamm said. "The offensive coordinator from Oklahoma came down to our school, but I couldn't talk to him. I just waved and said hello. The whole Big 12 has sent me a ton of stuff except Texas."
Hamm says that he has received some interest to make some early unofficial visits.
"LSU wants me to come down there for spring practice in March," Hamm said. "I wanted to go to Texas A&M, but I haven't talked to them about that yet. Other than that I'm going to make it out to the Texas camp, Nebraska, and my coach wants me to do some in-state camps at Texas Tech and TCU."
No matter what his size is, Hamm says that the first few letters that started coming in as a junior had him surprised. So he was even more shocked when they were coming in piles everyday to his home.
"No sir, I didn't expect this at all," Hamm said. "I always thought about it as a freshman because I saw all the seniors get the letters."
Hamm says he hasn't thought about a top school yet and that he'll look around until he finds the right fit. On the other hand, if the right school comes along, he may not wait.
"It kind of depends on the college," he said. "If it's a good school, maybe I'll just get it done. I don't really know much about all of this stuff yet and that's why I got some questions answered at the Rivals.com junior day. My coach has been helping me out and I'm sure he and I will talk about all this as it happens."
Even though he's sitting fine on weight, he says that sometimes he doesn't realize how big he actually is.
"I'm pretty big, I guess," he said. "I'm also really trying to work on getting lower with my blocking. I'm also shooting to get my weight down to 290, but I'm second in regionals for power lifting and that's a big deal for me to get to the regional tournament. It's tough to get too light when you're doing all of that."
