Hale has first offer

Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove defensive lineman Joel Hale picked up his first scholarship shortly after Christmas. The Indiana Hoosiers offered Hale, who last week participated in the U.S. Army National Combine.
"I was really excited," Hale said. "I wasn't really expecting it. My coach brought me to his office, and I thought I was in trouble. He ended up telling me that I was offered my Indiana, I was pretty excited."

Hale believes Indiana will climb up the Big Ten ranks.
"I know Bill Lynch is running a great program right now, they are on the way up," Hale said. "They are going to be a Big Ten championship contender in the next couple of years I believe. The facilities are unbelievable, the new weight room, I don't have words to describe it. 25,000 square feet. It is really nice. I watched the Hoosiers growing up, more basketball than football, but either way it is good to get an offer from them."
Hale said he has recently heard from Ohio State.
"Coach Dick Tressell came in and they invited me to their one day summer camp. I think I am going to attend that and play it by ear from there."
Ohio State is just a three hour drive from Greenwood.
"It has everything you want," Hale said. "It is close to home, good academics, they are a championship contender every year. Anything that you want, Ohio State offers."
Purdue and Notre Dame have been in contact as well, according to Hale.
"Notre Dame is a great school," Hale said. "it is a different lifestyle, I haven't gotten a chacne to visit. But I know of Notre Dame. It is a great school and has great tradition. Purdue, also a great school. They are up and coming as well in the Big Ten."
Hale does not have any specific favorites at this time.
"Anybody that pays for my education is a favorite," Hale said.
