Hakes ready for a challenge

Ft. Worth (Texas) Nolan Catholic quarterback Sean Hakes is ready for a challenge. Despite dropping one game by a field goal, his team's two victories have been by blow outs, giving him little opportunity to play a lot and improve his stock with the college coaches.
"I've been taken out in the first quarter the games we won," Hakes, who is a two-star quarterback that is 6-foot-3 and 182 pounds, said.

"We have Dallas Christian this week, so it'll be an actual challenge. They have some good defensive backs, and I'm excited about it. It'll be a tough game, and I'm ready for it."
Hakes has made the most of his limited opportunities.
"I feel more confident this year," he said. "Last year, I was a little nervous because we had a senior back up and I was afraid if I messed up then I would get yanked. But this year, I've improved my game and I'm confident about my throws and my reads.
"I just have to connect with the receivers now. They're not used to having a hard ball thrown at them, and they've dropped a lot of passes. In our game against First Baptist, they had six drops. I would have been 13 for 14."
Hakes is still sitting with a scholarship offer from Colorado State. The Rams talked to Hakes on Monday evening and continue to let him know that he's a priority for them.
"I'm being recruited by coach (Darrell) Funk, and he's a really nice guy," he said. "I'm really comfortable talking to him. They're still at the same point as they were before. They really want me, but I want to play cards and see what else is out there."
Tulsa also called Hakes for the first time on Monday evening, and Hakes is hoping that with some tougher games ahead he will be able to send out more tape to college teams and spark more interest.
