Gunther talks about his decision

Earlier we reported that San Diego State picked up a commitment from Camarillo (Calif.) offensive lineman Kurtis Gunther. We were able to catch up with the lineman to find out more about his decision.
Gunther, 6-8, 250 pounds is a mammoth tackle prospect who was flying below the radar despite his size and potential. The athlete took a recent unofficial visit to San Diego State and his commitment came shortly afterwards.

"I was at San Diego State this past weekend to watch them play UNLV, Gunther said. "I was looking at a few other schools but they immediately became my top school after the visit. I really loved the campus and the surrounding area as well and just felt would be a great place for me to play.
"To be honest, even before this whole process started, San Diego State was always kind of my dream school. I just really liked the school a lot so that's a big reason why I committed so early without even taking an official visit or anything. I do have a visit lined up in December but my commitment is solid."
Gunther was pro-active in the recruiting process and was the one who initiated the contact with the Aztecs.
"I wasn't hearing anything from them so I sent them two game films," Gunther said. "Nevada and Colorado State were both recruiting me at the time but that was really it. I sent the film to San Diego State and they emailed my coach to say they were interested and then offered me a scholarship just five days later.
"Nevada and Colorado State both wanted me to visit out there but once I got the offer from San Diego State, I decided to commit right away. I didn't want to risk waiting it out and losing my spot to another player. I knew that was where I wanted to go so there was no sense in waiting around."
