POPLARVILLE, Miss. – Thursday night has always been the night for Junior College football in Mississippi, and this week the place to be was Poplarville as Pearl River CC hosted Copiah-Lincoln CC.
In addition to a matchup between two of the best teams in the state, the game also featured some of the top JUCO prospects in the nation, including five-star prospect Raven Gray. Gray showed why he's considered one of the best defensive end prospects in all of Junior College football.
The 6-foot-4, 260-pounder was all over the field for the Wolves. Despite a titanic effort from Gray, Pearl River won the defensive struggle 14-2.
After the the game, Gray talked with Rivals.com about his season and how recruiting is going.
"I'm firmly committed to Auburn," he said with a smile. "I've been committed to Auburn for a long time."
There's no reason to doubt his claims as Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville was spotted in the stands prior to kickoff. Gray signed with the Tigers out of Enterprise (Ala.) High School, but has spent the better part of the last two years in Wesson.
"I'm looking forward to going home," he said. "My house is a little over an hour from Auburn, I've been here for almost two years."
When asked if any other schools are trying to sway his commitment, his response was simple.
"I get a bunch of letters and coaches are always trying to talk to me," he said. "I'm not interested in talking to anyone else. You can tell everyone I am 100 percent for Auburn."
Gray projects as a December graduate.
