Gray favors Mississippi State, ASU

Three-star athlete J.T. Gray has trips to take and choices to make. He knows this as well as anyone. He has plenty of options and a few visit dates in the works.
He also has a favorite.

"My favorite is Mississippi State," Gray said Sunday night. "I'm trying to get my official visit there all set up. I have a strong connection with them. I talk to the coaches a lot. I've seen the campus a lot and have visited."
Gray has previously listed both Ole Miss and Arizona State as frontrunners. He has the right to change the pecking order and exercises it frequently. That's to say that his outlook could change as official visits unfold.
"I'm going to ASU on Jan. 17 and Cincinnati on Jan. 24," Gray said. "Those two are set and ready."
A two-way player at the high school level, Gray is being recruited exclusively as a safety, a position he says he prefers. His next visit will to Arizona State, a school with which he is familiar having lived just a few miles away from the campus recently as last season.
Mississippi State may be the favorite to land Gray, but the Sun Devils are certainly still in play.
"ASU is No. 2," Gray said. "I've been talking to them a lot. I actually called them today but they didn't answer. I'm going to call them back this week."
Gray says he may wait until signing day to announce his decision. But while he isn't totally set on that timetable, he's absolutely certain of the criteria he'll use to choose.
"It's based on the playing time and the academics," he said. " The major I'm majoring in is going to be sports management, so I'm looking for that too."
Gray, who moved from Phoenix to Mississippi last offseason, lists a total of 12 scholarship offers. He plays both running back and defensive back on the high school level and spent last season at Clarksdale (Miss.) High. p>
