Gophers get early present
With Christmas right around the corner, Mansfield (Texas) Summit two-star outside linebacker Deon Hightower decided to give the Minnesota Golden Gophers and early present.
“I committed to Minnesota and coach Mason yesterday,” Hightower, who is 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, said. “I talked to coach Mason yesterday and we really had a good talk. That put it into perspective for me. I’m going up there for a lot of really good reasons, and I’m very comfortable with my decision.”

Hightower was also considering offers from Tulsa and Kansas, but after a December 12 official visit to Minnesota he was sold.
Hightower will have a chance to battle teammate Jarvis Minton in college. Minton is heading to Wisconsin to play his college football.
“Jarvis and I already talking a lot of smack back and forth,” Hightower said. “It’s going to be fun to play against him every year.”
