Goof goofs things up for RB

Dallas A. Maceo Smith running back Ronald Simmons was one of the state of Texas' hottest recruits at one point in the recruiting process.

Smith, who is 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, was getting recruited by the likes of Colorado State, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. But then a blunder by his high school counselor might have cost him a shot at playing college football.
"My counselor screwed things up with my transcript and didn't help me out at all," Simmons, a three-star recruit, said. "I kept trying to sign up to take the test but my counselor kept putting it off for me and now look at where I'm at."
He's now knee deep in the recruiting season and won't even be able to take the ACT until January 25. And recruits can't take official visits until they at least take the test.
And because of that, the college coaches have stopped calling and his options have become slim and none.
"I'm hoping to take the test and blow it away," he said. "I've got a 3.5 grade-point average, so I know that I'll qualify. So maybe after things work out, the schools will come calling again."
