Tahaan Goodman and his family have known UCLA assistant coach Demetrice Martin for a long time and that could play a factor as his recruitment continues.
The four-star safety from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., said this past weekend while playing for the B2G Five-Star team at the Passing Down SoCal 7on7 Regional at Fullerton College that his trip to UCLA's spring game went well and that he's been thoroughly impressed by the Bruins' new coaching staff.
There is a lot of competition to sign Goodman, a high-flying 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect who's rated No. 14 at safety and No. 150 in the 2013 class by Rivals.com, and UCLA at least has a shot.
"I went there and spent the night at the hotel with Priest (Willis)," Goodman said. "It was nice there. I saw what the roster was looking like, how they played and how they coached.
"I like the coaches a lot. They're one of my favorite groups of coaches because I have a good relationship with Demetrice. My parents and my family grew up with him and then the head coach is great. It's kind of great for DBs there so I get along well with the coaches."
Goodman, who has a good chance of moving up in the next round of rankings, is not expected to make his decision for some time.
"Decision time is going to be later," Goodman said.
Official visits to LSU and Hawaii are being planned - he's expected to visit LSU for its matchup with Alabama along with Willis and a date for Hawaii has not been solidified yet.
"Those are the only ones I know for sure," Goodman said.
Trips to Texas and Nebraska are being seriously considered as well. USC is also a major player in his recruitment and four-star teammate Chris Hawkins has already committed there.
In total, Goodman has about 25 offers so it's expected the four-star safety is going to take his time through the recruiting process and make his decision later on.
