Goins makes surprise switch

It was thought to be all done for three-star cornerback Mario Goins, the Copperas Cove, Texas defender who made a commitment to Arizona just weeks ago. That apparently changed Wednesday evening with a new pledge.
Goins, the 6-foot, 173-pounder, committed to Arizona and had the Wildcats leading for some time. However, there was one school on his mind that he was keeping quiet with and he followed his heart on Wednesday by making a new commitment.

"I'm going to the University of Wisconsin," Goins said. "I never mentioned them because I didn't want to jump the gun on their interest. I didn't want to go too fast and hope for something that wouldn't come. But, I got the offer and I felt like it was the best place for me."
Goins says that his opportunity to come in and start early was a big part of his decision.
"I feel like the opportunity to come in and compete since they need DB's is huge," Goins said. "The school, the place, and where they're at is where I wan to be. If football doesn't work out, the way it is out there, I'd be just fine."
His recruiter, Kerry Cooks, was also a big part of why Goins made the switch from the Pac-10 to the Big Ten.
"From academics, to playing on the field, he let me know everything from the beginning," Goins said about Cooks. "I liked that."
As for any possible future visits, Goins says that he's solid to the Badgers and he won't be looking around any more. He'll be taking his only and last official visit to Wisconsin after his team concludes with the playoffs in the next few weeks.
"This is it for me," Goins said. "I'm all done now."
