HOGANSVILLE, Ga. -- When it comes to the recruiting scene in

the Southeast, five-star athlete Terry Godwin is a name that fans are
more than familiar with, mainly for his exploits on the field. Godwin can do it
all, from playing wide receiver and cornerback to taking snaps under center and
even serving as his team's kicker at times.
With his crazy set of football skills it's no wonder Alabama and
Auburn are still fighting to get the longtime Georgia commit
on campus. But in his hometown, Godwin isn't known just for his football
ability. He also stars in basketball and baseball, and has become quite the
local celebrity for his athletic ability.
Despite all that, when Godwin accepted his Under Armour All-America Game jersey
in a ceremony at Callaway High School, Godwin's coach Pete Wiggins lauded him
for his impact off the field.
"Terry is a great ambassador for both this high school and the city," Wiggins
said. "He's such an impressive young man and a great person and he's really
deserving of this honor and we couldn't be any prouder of him."
Coming from Hogansville, a small town that's closer to Alabama than it is the
Atlanta area, Godwin said he grew up with a chip on his shoulder.
"Every time I go out on and compete I always have a chip on my shoulder," Godwin
said. "And every time I'm competing I'm trying to prove that I'm the best of the
best."
Landing a spot on the Under Armour All-America Game roster is proof enough that
Godwin is one of the nation's best, even though he comes from off the beaten
path. He plans on showing the nation just how talented he is when he takes the
field in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Jan. 2.
"Of course I'm going to go out and represent and have fun and I plan on showing
them what small town guy can bring to the big stage," Godwin said. "It just
shows that hard work pays off. You put a lot of hard work and you get good
things out of it."
Friends, family and teammates turned out for Friday's jersey presentation and
Godwin said he's expecting the same type of support for the game.
"I would expect at least 50 people to make the trip down," Godwin said. "Now
that I'm wearing this jersey it feels real now. I like having this jersey on."
Having competed at marquee events like the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge
Presented by Under Armour, Godwin said he's looking forward to reuniting with
other big name players.
"I want to see all my guys that I played with up there in Baltimore," Godwin
said. "We may be playing against each other at the next level but this is a
chance for us to go out there and have fun like we always do. All the big names
will be there, we will have a good time, relax and go play some good football."
