Glades Central DB choose Canes

The Miami Hurricanes have a rich tradition at defensive back with numerous players boasted solid careers and national titles. One such former player is Kenny Berry, who played for the 'Canes in the late 80's when they were dominant. Now his son, Damien Berry, is following in his footsteps.
"I committed last night," said the 5-foot-11, 197-pounder who can play cornerback or safety on defense or running back on offense. "I'm going there as an athlete but I'll probably play defense like my dad did. I can play wherever in the defensive backfield."

Berry, who has long favored Miami, said his choice was not that easy.
"Man, I really like Florida and coach Holliday[/db] a lot," said the Belle Glade (Fla.) Glades Central standout. "He was real with me, but in the end I got up yesterday and said 'what am I doing, I belong at the U'."
Berry was recruited by Mario Cristobal and Randy Shannon, both of whom played with his father.
"I knew they'd take care of me down there," he said. "They will look out for me and they showed me a lot of love. They recruited me harder than anyone else and it's home to me."
Berry is one of numerous prospects from Glades Central and he's trying to round up some company in Miami.
"I'm working on Deonte Thompson and Ernest McCoy and some of the other guys," he said. "They all like Miami to start with but I'm making sure they will come with me."
Berry's team just completed a 7-on-7 tournament at Auburn where teammate Johnnie Lee Dixon committed to the Tigers.
"He just felt comfortable there," said Berry. "I'm happy for him and I'm happy for myself because this is over. I thought about jumping on the Miami offer right away but I wanted to make sure I made the right choice. Now I know I have."
