Gilchrist cuts list to five, decision coming

Rivals100 cornerback Marcus Gilchrist is closing in on a decision. The High Point (N.C.) T.W. Andrews star has narrowed his list of favorites to five schools in preparation for a decision in the next few weeks.
"I've narrowed my list to Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Clemson, North Carolina and Georgia," he said. "I like these schools because I feel they have the academics taken care of and that is what I'm really looking for. I want to see how good they are in my field, computer engineering and mostly all these schools I'm looking at offer that field.

"As far as football is concerned, I basically like all the coaching staffs. They have also all told me I have a chance to come in and play right away."
Of the schools remaining, the four-star prospect hasn't visited Georgia or Notre Dame.
"I'm planning to head down to Georgia on July 7th or potentially earlier," he said. "I just want to go there and talk with the coaching staff and see how everything is. Once I'm done with that trip which I'm trying to move up to the 1st of the month, I should have a decision soon after."
Recently Gilchrist made a trip to Chapel Hill, but didn't talk to the coaches much there.
"I was there for a picture of the top players in North Carolina," he said. "I got to talk a little bit with the coaches and it was nice, but it wasn't too long. I was basically there for the event."
Some rumors have started to surface that Clemson may be the standout leader for his services.
"I can say that Clemson is in the race, but they are not out in front."
Last season the No. 7 cornerback in the country earned conference player of the year and first team all-state honors after registering 40 tackles and 11 interceptions. He added seven touchdowns on special teams.
