Three-star James Gilbert has been one of the most productive running backs in the Indianapolis area over the last two seasons. He goes into the spring with four offers and plenty of college interest.
The schools that have offered the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Gilbert are Temple, Akron, Ball State and Toledo. More offers could be added to that list in the near future.
"I am supposed to be getting a Western Michigan offer, but I haven't talked to the head coach yet," Gilbert said. "I talked to Mike Hart, the running backs coach, but he said I have to talk to the head coach to make it official."
Gilbert is also starting to generate Big Ten interest. He made an unofficial visit to Iowa in January.
"I showed interest in them, so I get to go through the process like everybody else does," Gilbert said. "It sounds like a good fit for me. They run the ball, so that would be good for me."
Additional visits were taken to Ball State and Toledo during the last few months, and he plans to see more schools this spring.
"I am trying to go to Northern Illinois and Illinois for spring visits," Gilbert said. "They want me to start coming to the campus, start knowing the coaching staff more so they can offer me."
Gilbert rushed for 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior at Arsenal Tech. He will play his senior season at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis.
