This installment is from four-star offensive tackle Brett Gallimore of Riverside (Mo.) Park Hill South. Gallimore talks about the upcoming season and the recruiting process to date.
I am now in my third week of practice for the upcoming 2003 season. It seems like football has never ended.
Since last season, the recruiting process has been continuous. It started out slow with coaches visiting the high school and checking to see if there were any Division I prospects in the football program. The coaches watched my highlight video and all of a sudden there were scholarship offers being sent by mail.
I received early offers from schools like Florida State, Minnesota, Missouri, etc. Florida State has not recruited a lineman from Missouri in 20 years. I was very surprised and pleased with the offers. Over the last several months I have had over 30 Division I offers and several more schools who are waiting to offer, because they don't offer early.
I have made some unofficial visits to schools like Michigan, Purdue, Arkansas, Missouri, K-State, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Iowa.
I plan to make official visits soon. I am traveling to Nebraska on August 30th. for an unofficial, Michigan Sept.13, and Iowa for an official visit on Sept. 27. I am setting up a date to visit Ohio State for an official visit in late September or early October.
During this whole process I have been rated as one of the top linemen in the country. I am ranked 11th. by Rivals.com.
The whole recruiting process has been a thrill for me and my family. I have played football since I was in the second grade. I have always worked hard and dreamed of being a Division I player. Now the opportunity is here.
The hardest thing will be to break down my final 10 schools and then to 5 and finally the school that I want to attend.
There are so many great schools, coaches and football programs that it is really hard to say no to them. However,I do realize that only one school will be there in the end.
