Gerhart breaks state rushing record

Congratulations go out to Norco (Calif.) running back Toby Gerhart who broke the state's all time record for career rushing yards in the teams 22-15 win over Corona Thursday night.
The record of 8,495 yards had previously belonged to Florida State running back and former Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure standout Lorenzo Booker. Gerhart finished the night with 299 yards and three touchdowns and his career total of 8,632 yards will only grow as the Cougars look primed for a long playoff run and the back should get at least three more games in to pad his total.

"The record, it hasn't really sunk in yet," Gerhart said. "To be honest, I'm just glad we won the game tonight. It was a tough win and made the different between finishing tied for first in our league and finishing fourth and possibly missing the playoffs."
Gerhart won't have long to savor the record as he's set to leave on an official visit to Mississippi today. The athlete tripped to Utah last weekend and will also take visits to Duke, Stanford and UCLA. The Cardinal are the odds on favorite at this time and Gerhart plans to play both football and baseball in college.
The two sport standout is as impressive off the field as he is on it. Academically, Gerhart has never earned a grade lower than an A throughout high school and he has taken enough community college classes to enter college with enough credits to be considered a college sophomore.
