Georgia WR Lemeke Brockington commits to Minnesota

Lemeke Brockington is a talented wide receiver in south Georgia with ball skills, speed and toughness. He has reeled in around 20 offers, and the playmaker out of Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County has decided he wanted to be a Golden Gopher.

"I have had a lot of time to think about it, and on Tuesday night, I decided I was ready to commit to Minnesota," said Brockington. "I called up coach Simon and coach Fleck to tell them and they started yelling with excitement."

The 6-foot, 185 pounder was considering offers from Kentucky, Miami, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, but wants to head north to play in the Big Ten.

"I know I have not visited Minnesota before, but I have really thought about this, and I know what I am getting into. I just think the fit at Minnesota is great for me.

"I have been talking to coach Simon a lot and I think he and coach Fleck can really develop me and help me improve as a football player.

"I got the virtual tour, and I learned about the education, the different majors and I saw all I needed to see. I like their offense, I like the coaches and I feel really good about my decision."

The Gophers pulled Rashod Bateman from Tifton (Ga.) Tift County in 2018, and being just 30 minutes apart, those two know each other. Bateman has had a strong first two years at Minnesota and will be on draft boards in the future.

Brockington and Bateman have talked and the two have been compared to one another.

"I know Rashod and we have talked some about Minnesota and stuff like that before," said Brockington. "He told me if I love it, then go for it. He just told me to handle my business when I get to Minnesota.

"The coaches have compared me to Rashod, but I want to be even better than he is there. He has done great up there, but my goal is to be better.

"I am excited about my commitment and I love everything about the school after doing my research. I keep thinking the fit is perfect for me."
