Cole Bennett may be on the verge of a college choice.
"Right now, I'm considering two teams," said
Bennett, a member of the Rivals.com
Georgia Top 50 team and rated
the nation's No. 27 tight end. "I'm down to Georgia Tech and Auburn.
"I'd never say never, but unless something happens
in the next week or two, I probably won't be looking at anyone else."
The Yellow Jackets and Tigers have issued two of
Bennett's three official scholarship offers. The other is from Middle
Tennessee State. He had also been receiving interest from Georgia, Alabama,
Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida.
"The big advantage with Auburn over Tech is the town
setting," he said. "It's not in a huge city like Atlanta. It feels more like
what college ought to be. Plus, it's in the SEC.
"But football-wise, I feel like it's pretty equal. I
like the facilities and coaches and players at both places. The big
advantage with Tech is the education. That's a pretty big opportunity. You
can get a degree that really means a lot no matter where you go in the
world."
Bennett carries a 4.0 GPA and has scored an 1140 on
the SAT, so academics could play a key role in his decision.
He's attended games at Georgia (vs. Clemson),
Georgia Tech (vs. BYU) and Auburn (vs. Vanderbilt). He plans to attend the
Arkansas-Auburn game this weekend and Georgia-Auburn on Nov. 16.
Through four games this season, Bennett (6-5, 225,
4.61) has hauled in 15 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns. As a
junior, he had 38 receptions for 640 yards and seven touchdowns.
