Roderick Rogers has his first four scholarship offers.
A 6-foot-2, 182-pound safety with 4.5 speed, Rogers says
LSU, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Tulane have made it official. He's also
receiving heavy interest from Alabama and Georgia, and believes the Crimson Tide
and Bulldogs are close to offering.
"I'm pretty much even on all of those teams, plus South
Carolina and North Carolina," he said. "I have them all the same in my mind
right now. I'll have to take some more visits and go check them out before I can
norrow it down, but I'm glad they're wanting me."
Rogers said he grew up a fan of several teams, including
the home state Bulldogs, the Tar Heels and Gamecocks.
"I liked a lot of people," he said. "I'm a fan of the
game more than anything. I just like watching those teams."
He said LSU and Vanderbilt are high on his list due to
their academic programs. He's interested in pursuing the sports medicine field.
"I got hurt a couple of times playing ball, so while I was getting that taken
care of, I kind of got interested in sports medicine and how all that works."
Rogers added that LSU is building a "great team" and
that the new Vanderbilt staff "seems like some coaches who can turn them around
and win there."
As a junior, Rogers recorded 90 tackles and one
interception for Stephenson High School.
"I love playing defense," he said. "I play to make the
big hits, the big plays. That's probably the favorite part of the game for me,
but I'm also a good cover man, too. A lot of schools are looking for safeties
who can cover one-on-one and shut people down when they have to."
Rogers will camp at Georgia in mid-July. He is also
considering a camp at LSU.
