Gaston has his first official scholarship offer, but it's clear he's
holding out for his dream school.
UAB extended the first offer to the 6-foot, 195-pound
safety/receiver from Marietta's Walton High School. Now he hopes the home state
Georgia Bulldogs will be making the call soon.
"I grew up a Georgia fan from as far back as I can
remember," he said. "I've been going to the games since I was a little kid, my
whole family has gone there... my sister's there now. If they offered, I'd
probably go there."
Gaston, who recorded 120 tackles and six interceptions
as a junior and owns a reputation as a hard hitter to go along with his 4.5
speed, is also getting strong interest from Florida, Tulane, Tennessee, Colorado
and Alabama.
He talked about some of his other favorites:
"I liked what I saw at Tennessee when I visited up
there," he said. "The facilities were top notch. And it's hard to say as a
Georgia fan, but they've got a great program.
"It's kind of the same thing with Florida. I haven't been
there yet, but I've heard a lot of good things from other people. It seems like
it would be a fun place to play. They're always competitive for the SEC
championship and the national championship. I've been getting a whole lot of
mail and calls from them of late, so I'm trying to learn more about them.
"With Alabama, it's the same thing. A great program with
tradition. It would be a fun place to play."
What about the interloper in the midst of all those SEC
teams, the Colorado Buffaloes?
"I've always liked it out west," he said. "I've been out
there before on trips and I just love it. It's real scenic. I got to stop by
their campus and really liked it... The distance really doesn't matter to me. If
that's the best place for me, I wouldn't hesitate to go there."
