Georgia RB struggles to get looks

Canton (Ga.) Cherokee running back Jon Benson hasn't had much success drawing the attention of college football recruiters.
The 6-foot, 181-pound Benson posted solid times at the Blacksburg NIKE camp in April at Virginia Tech. He ran the 40-yard dash in a blistering 4.38 seconds, one of the best times at the event and was even hailed as a possible sleeper by some analysts in attendance.

Recruiting, however, has been slow. Benson has taken unofficial visits to Clemson and Tusculum (Tenn.) College, but no recruiters call or come by the school to talk with him.
"It's hard to get any colleges to come and look at me," Benson said. "I would love to play football and run track in college, though."
His high school team's struggles may have something to do with the lack of interest. Cherokee High has struggled to a 1-8 record so far this season, scoring more than 20 points only twice. Benson provided one of the few highlights of the season when he broke off an 80-yard touchdown run Oct. 7 against Sequoyah. Benson also is a track standout.
