Georgia RB Looking Out Of State

Roswell High School football player Sedric Cook is not sure where he will play his college football but he is sure it will not be in the state of Georgia. This despite his cousin, Jermaine Phillips, already playing strong safety for the Georgia Bulldogs.
So we asked him the obvious question, why do you want to leave the state so badly?

“I wanted to play for Georgia Southern but I’m behind in my math and to play for a Georgia school you have to have a year beyond Algebra II. So to do that I would have to go to night school or summer school and I rather not deal with all that. Right now my top school is Auburn.”
It seems the Tigers have a pretty nice edge over the rest of the schools trying to get his signature.
“I have been up there a lot of times, one of my friends parents is an alum up there and I have been to most all their football games. I was also invited to the Auburn A day game and I really like the campus and the coaches. That’s the only campus I have been to and I have a cousin that plays at Auburn.”
Sedric was suppose to attend the Auburn football camp but was not able too.
“I was supposed to but I had to go to a combine down in Marietta.”
The only problem with Auburn is that they have not offered. His only offer is from Butler University, a junior college in Kansas. The other school he is looking at is the University of Alabama at Birmingham and he’s received interest from schools like Clemson, Wake Forest and a few others.
Sedric used his 5-foot-8, 214-pound frame and 4.59-second 40-yard dash speed to rush for 1,175 yards and 18 touchdowns on 221 carries. He is also strong for his size, bench pressing 315 pounds. He would like to use his strength and speed to play right away.
“I think I can play right away but if I get red-shirted then I can deal with it and just play the next year.”
When he is not on the football field he likes to hang out with his friends.
“ Usually we like to hang out but with two a days and all of that you really cant do anything but go home and go to sleep. It’s been a little bit harder and hotter this year. Sometimes we still go out and go to a movie. When we go out it is a team thing that’s mostly all we hang out with.”
Sedric and his teammates would like to go further this year in the playoffs.
“We have 28 returning seniors. Last year we made it all the way to the second round of the playoffs and got beaten by Parkview. This year our goal is to go all the way past the playoffs -- do it all.”
The recruiting process is likely to take a while for Mr. Cook.
“I’m enjoying it and most likely wont make a decision early.”
