Georgia QB may re-open process

Three-star Cordelle (Ga.) Crisp County quarterback Joe Joe Brown may be back on the open market.
Brown made a commitment to South Carolina shortly after visiting the Gamecocks last month, but says he’s received word that USC may not be able to honor all of the verbals it has taken.

“They haven’t called or talked to me personally since I made my official visit,” he said. “But they called last week and told my head coach that they got another quarterback (Memphis, Tenn., prospect Antonio Heffner) and that they have over-offered this year and wouldn’t be able to honor all of their scholarships.
“I’m not real sure what that means. It’s kind of confusing because they said they planned to honor mine, but it makes you wonder why they called to say that.
“So I’m not sure what I’m going to do (on Wednesday). I don’t think I’m going to sign with anybody. I think I have 14 days to sign the letter-of-intent, so I’m going to make sure I know what my status is before I do anything.”
Brown said he would not “grayshirt” or walk on with any school, and wanted to make sure the Gamecocks had him in their future plans if they do stick with him.
“I don’t want to do that or go somewhere just because they feel obligated to keep their scholarship offer,” he said. “I want to go somewhere that I’m wanted, somewhere that I’m needed.”
Asked what other options were on the table, Brown said that Wake Forest, N.C. State, Kentucky and Middle Tennessee had remained in contact until the dead period began.
“They all kept in touch,” he said. “Wake and Kentucky called a lot here lately. I told them if things don't work out with South Carolina, I was definitely interested. So those are a couple of options for me."
Brown (6-3, 190, 4.6) passed for 1,800 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 300 yards and four touchdowns as a senior. He had 2,289 yards and 19 touchdowns through the air and 625 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground as a junior.
He is rated the No. 22 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by Rivals.com.
