The flood gates are beginning to open for the recruitment of Woodstock (Ga.) Etowah offensive tackle Reid Webster. Just a few short weeks ago, Webster was holding three offers from UAB, Buffalo and UCF. Now, the 6-foot-5, 265-pounder is up to ten offers with some highly regarded programs on his list.
"Right now I've got ten offers," Webster said. "It's UCF, UAB, Buffalo, Miami, Troy, Tulane, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Indiana and Air Force. Oklahoma State came in yesterday and then Miami came in two weeks ago. Ole Miss and Indiana came in last week."
Most of Webster's new offers have come in to his surprise for the most part but now he is starting to learn about the coaches and the programs through conversations.
"They're all real big football schools and definitely schools I'm excited about," he said. "All of them pretty much came out of the blue. I talked to the Miami coach for close to an hour last week. I talked to Oklahoma State a few times. They all came through and watched me this spring."
Webster clearly made an impression through his spring practice performances. With as many schools as have been coming through, Webster was even more motivated to practice hard and compete.
"It made me nervous but it got me pumped up," he said of the attention.
There are some schools that have yet to pull the trigger on an offer for Webster that may be very close including Georgia, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt. Most of the schools yet to offer are waiting for an in-person evaluation at camp.
"I'm pretty sure I'm going to the Clemson camp and I'm not sure what else," he said. "I'll probably go to one or two more though."
Aside from camps, Webster will be busy working out every day with his high school team and getting in shape for the 2009 season.
