Just over a week ago, Georgia offered KJ Jefferson, a 2019 quarterback out of Sardis (Miss.) North Panola that put up monster numbers in the fall. The 6-foot-3, 205 pound junior had over 3,000 yards passing and over 1,300 yards rushing and exactly 50 total touchdowns.
He took his first visit to Athens Saturday and the Dawgs made a strong impression.
"From the minute I walked in, the coaches were talking to me, they were cracking jokes, they were showing me attention and they made me feel wanted," said Jefferson.
Most, if not all of the coaching staff spoke with Jefferson, but the ones he spent the most time with were Jim Chaney and James Coley. Jefferson's coach, Carl Diffee said, "Coach Coley was by our side all day."
Jefferson echoed that.
"Coach Coley is a cool guy," said Jefferson. "He is laid back and he spent a lot of time with me. He talked about their offensive system, their quarterback play and things like that with me."
It was a little different with coach Chaney. They spent more time in the meeting room.
"Coach Chaney had me draw up plays on the board for him and we talked about defenses and things like that. He told me he was glad to have me there and it was a great time with him too."
Of course Kirby Smart spent some time with Jefferson too. Smart, his staff and the overall presentation by Georgia has put the Bulldogs right in the thick of this race.
"I am definitely going to look into Georgia more and try to get back up there," said Jefferson. "I got to tour the campus, I like how they push the academics and the coaches were great.
"I had a really good time."
Jefferson will be competing in the Rivals Camp Series presented by adidas in Mobile (Ala.) Sunday.
