David Hines will be one of the
South's most talented players unable to participate in signing day festivities.
"He's going to be a non-qualifier, which is a real
shame," said North Gwinnett coach Tim Hammontree. "Nobody's holding anything for
him right now because there's really no way he'll be eligible by the end of
spring or even summer.
"David's got a good test score and he comes from a good
family. He says he wants to play football, but he's not proving it with his
daily work. He's just going through the motions. It's tough to watch because
I've coached more than 2,200 boys and sent 21 players to the SEC in my career,
and he could be as good as any of them."
Hines (6-2, 210, 4.5) is a member of the Rivals.com
Georgia Top 50 team and the No.
23 outside linebacker in the nation. He was recruited by Georgia, Clemson,
Florida, South Carolina and Middle Tennessee earlier in the process.
"We're going to go to a combine at Hargrave Military on
Feb. 24," Hammontree said. "We'll see if he wants to go that route and
re-dedicate himself to playing football and getting a college education."
