Georgia LB is heading to the ACC

Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian linebacker Shane Mularkey has picked up two scholarship offers to date heading into his senior season. Recently, the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder decided that he didn't need to hear any more and will be heading to the ACC.
Over the course of the summer, Mularkey took a visit to North Carolina and decided that no other offer would top the one he got from the Tar Heels.

"I just committed a couple days ago," Mularkey said. "I just went through and I thought about any other schools that if they offered, would I choose them over UNC and I said 'no'. It's a pretty prestigious school in academics and athletics."
The coaches and the feel of the campus played big roles in Mularkey's decision.
"I went up to their camp," he said. "I met the coaches. I like the linebacker coach a lot, Coach Thigpen. I trust him a lot. I liked the feel of the campus. I felt like nothing could compare to the campus and the sports there."
Mularkey has received one other official offer from UCF and has been receiving interest from Clemson, North Carolina State, South Carolina and others.
"I'm psyched because I'm going where I want," he said. "I got it off my mind and now and now I can get ready to play football for Greater Atlanta Christian and get ready for UNC next year."
This fall will be Mularkey's first at Greater Atlanta Christian after transferring from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas in March. The name Mularkey may sound familiar to Atlanta natives as his father Mike Mularkey was recently named the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons.
"He's been a big help definitely," the younger Mularkey said of his father. "He's always there to give me help but not too much to where he's in the way. He went up with me to North Carolina and he likes it just as much as I do so it was kind of a mutual decision."
In Mularkey, the Tar Heels will be getting a very physical backer.
"I'm very physical," he said. "I like to hit a lot. I think that's one of the main attributes I like to give myself credit for. I have good feet and I'm pretty quick but being tough and physical are the big things."
